# Back Up and Recover Your Recovery Phrase

How to find, export, and back up your Solflare recovery phrase on mobile or the extension, and what you can and cannot do if you lose it.

Solflare cannot recover a lost recovery phrase for you, because Solflare never stores it or has access to it. You can still get your recovery phrase back if your wallet is open on any device: reveal it in the Solflare app or browser extension, then write it down. If you created your wallet with Quick Login, you can restore the wallet from your Google or Apple account and reveal the phrase from there.

{% hint style="danger" %}
Nobody from Solflare will ever ask for your recovery phrase or private key. Anyone who offers to "recover" a lost phrase or wallet for a fee is a scammer.
{% endhint %}

#### Can Solflare recover my recovery phrase?

No. Solflare is a self-custody wallet: your recovery phrase is generated on your device, and Solflare never receives a copy. That is why nobody else can move your funds, and also why [Solflare support cannot retrieve or reset a lost phrase](https://help.solflare.com/en/articles/9264203).

#### Which situation are you in?

* **Your wallet is still open on a phone or browser:** reveal and back up the phrase now, using the steps below.
* **You used Quick Login:** restore the wallet on any device by signing in with the same Google or Apple account and entering your passcode, then reveal the phrase. See [Quick Login](https://docs.solflare.com/solflare/security/quick-login).
* **You have the phrase and want the wallet on a new device:** import it. See Import any Solana Wallet on [mobile](https://docs.solflare.com/solflare/onboarding/mobile/import-any-solana-wallet) or the [browser extension](https://docs.solflare.com/solflare/onboarding/web-app-and-extension/import-any-solana-wallet).
* **You use Solflare Shield:** a Shield recovery phrase is shown only once, at setup, and cannot be exported later. If you have the written phrase, you can restore it onto a new Shield. See [Connect Solflare Shield](https://docs.solflare.com/solflare/onboarding/mobile/connect-solflare-shield).
* **You lost the phrase and have no access on any device:** the wallet and its funds cannot be recovered by anyone.

#### Recovery phrase or private key?

Your [recovery phrase](https://www.solflare.com/glossary/seed-recovery-phrase/) restores every wallet created from it. A [private key](https://www.solflare.com/glossary/private-key/) controls one wallet only, and exporting it covers only the wallet you have selected. Back up the recovery phrase whenever you can. See [What is a recovery phrase and private key?](https://help.solflare.com/en/articles/16291752)

#### How to store the phrase once you have it

Write it on paper or a metal backup plate and keep it somewhere safe and offline. Do not store it as a screenshot, a photo, a note, a document, or a plain copy in cloud storage. More options, including Quick Login's encrypted backup, are in [Digital Wallet Best Practices](https://docs.solflare.com/solflare/security/digital-wallet-best-practices).

#### If someone else may have your phrase

If you think your recovery phrase was seen or copied, the wallet is no longer safe. Create a new wallet with a new recovery phrase and move your funds to it right away. See [What should I do if my wallet is compromised?](https://help.solflare.com/en/articles/13522176) For other situations, such as a lost phone or a forgotten password, see [Lost Access & Recovery](https://docs.solflare.com/solflare/security/lost-access).
