# Generate a New Wallet

How to create a new Solflare wallet in the browser extension, with Google Quick Login or a recovery phrase, and how to store the recovery phrase safely.

You can create a new Solflare wallet in the browser extension in two ways: with Quick Login, which signs you in with Google and backs up your recovery phrase in encrypted form, or with a recovery phrase that you write down and store yourself. Both create the same self-custody Solana wallet.

#### Step 1: Install the Solflare extension

Install Solflare from the [Chrome Web Store](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/solflare-wallet/bhhhlbepdkbapadjdnnojkbgioiodbic?utm_source=docs.solflare.com\&utm_medium=referral\&utm_campaign=gitbook_extension_generate_wallet), or get the version for Brave, Edge, Firefox, Opera, or Arc from the [Solflare download page](https://www.solflare.com/download/). Pin the extension to your browser toolbar so it is easy to find.

#### Step 2: Choose how to create your wallet

Open the extension. On the welcome screen, choose **I need a new wallet**.

#### Option A: Quick Login with Google

1. Choose **Google** and sign in with your Google account.
2. Allow Solflare cloud access. This access is limited to the recovery phrase backup.
3. Set a 6-digit passcode and confirm it.
4. Accept the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.

#### Option B: Recovery phrase

1. Choose **Recovery phrase**. Solflare shows a new [recovery phrase](https://www.solflare.com/glossary/seed-recovery-phrase/).
2. Write the words down in order on paper and store them somewhere safe and offline. Never keep an unencrypted copy on your computer or in cloud storage.
3. Confirm the phrase when Solflare asks you to.
4. Set a password for the extension.

#### Your wallet is ready

The extension opens on your Portfolio, ready to receive SOL.
